Our Commitment To Sustainable and Responsible Tourism

At Argyll Cruising we are committed to providing our guests with the best experiences possible, whilst having as little impact on the environment as we can. Here are some of the things we are committed to and encourage our guests to be aware of as well.

Public transport

We suggest using public transport to get to us wherever possible. Both Dunoon and Oban are well served by public transport links. See our Getting To Us page for more details.

Stay local

If you are looking for accommodation before and after a cruise try to stay local. We love the local B&Bs, glamping sites and bothies dotted around Argyll.

Use local suppliers

We use local suppliers wherever possible as a way to support our local community and businesses, as well as being more sustainable, and would encourage our guests to do so as well. See our local suppliers page for more information on this.

Respect nature

Of course a big part of our cruises is wildlife spotting, but we always make sure to do this in a way that has as little impact on the animals as possible. The skippers are trained wildlife guides and will never do anything to upset the local animal populations. We also respect the landscape and have a no littering policy, as well as recycling on board.

Be aware of water use

We encourage guests to be aware of how much water they are using, especially when showering and brushing their teeth.

Reduce single-use plastics

We don’t carry plastic bottles of water on board and instead provide reusable water bottles that guests can fill from the tap and use during their trip.

Shop local and buy pre-loved

Whether you are looking for a new waterproof or for some sustaining snacks on your travels, shopping local and secondhand are really powerful ways of supporting the local community and the environment.

Ask for the catch of the day

Wherever possible we use local suppliers and sustainable food sources and when ashore guests can do the same. At the fish and chip shop or in restaurants take a look at what the catch of the day is. This means your fish is most likely from the pier nearby as opposed to from the freezer drawer. You will be surprised how delicious different types of battered fish are, and don’t forget to check the Good Fish Guide for any endangered species or download the app to take with you on your travels. Or if you love oysters and mussels, these are normally carbon neutral or negative as they sequester carbon as they grow!

Green Tourism

Green Tourism is a brilliant resource promoting greener ways for businesses and organisations to operate and has information on other environmentally friendly businesses.
